Dr Romano Byaruhanga is a Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist and founder member of Kampala Medical Chambers Hospital with over 20 years of experience as a specialist. He has professional interest in Maternal -fetal medicine with a focus at improving maternal perinatal and new-born care both at facility and community level, management of high risk pregnancies and infectious diseases in pregnancy with special reference to malaria, STI and HIV/AID. In addition, Dr Byaruhanga has major interest in the design and development of clinical protocols and guidelines, curriculum and training materials, and in-service and pre-service training of different health cadres (Midwives, intern doctors, community health workers) and Research.
He is an Honorary Professor, he lectures at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Uganda Martyrs University, an Honorary lecturer at the Department of Community Health and Behavioural Science, School of Public Health, College of Health Sciences, Makerere University, and a frequent external Examiner for the post graduate Master program at Uganda Christian University as well as Mbarara University School of Science and Technology.
Through his clinical practice and lecturing, he has nurtured and trained several doctors during their internship, nurses in training, and mentored doctors during their obstetrics and gynaecology training. He has a wide experience in major obstetrical and gynaecological techniques and laparoscopic procedures.
His is a former President of the Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Uganda, a professional body that brings together all obstetricians and gynaecologists in Uganda. He is also a member of the Uganda Medical Association, East, Central and Southern Africa Association of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists Societies (ECSAOGS) and the International Federation of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians (FIGO).
